Supporting our clients in any way we can is extremely important to us, and we’re always pleased to hear about their success – whether that’s in terms of new contracts, business growth, or award wins. So we were delighted to hear about Sidearm’s success in the Barclays Business Take One Small Step competition…

Frank Thorogood has been involved in the farming business of S Thorogood & Sons (Writtle) – a client of ours for nigh on 50 years - since leaving college, and has been a Director and shareholder of Thorogoods Haylage Ltd since incorporation in 2004. But his passion for cricket planted a seed in his entrepreneurial mind: his new invention, the Sidearm, allows cricketers of all levels to improve their batting skills without having to track down a pro bowler. This simple device recreates the bowling style of an experienced player, so batters have a great opportunity to practise while playing with partners of varying levels of expertise.

If endorsements by famous names such as Graham Gooch and Grant Flower were not enough, Sidearm has also caught the attention of Barclays: thanks to the business potential of this inventive tool, along with Frank’s exemplary business plan and strategy, Sidearm has been declared the winner of Barclays ‘Take One Small Step’ Business Competition in the Eastern region.

Frank commented: “It’s an amazing feeling to have won this competition. It gives me huge confidence that I can really make my idea a success.”
